Sweet eight year Kallee old Brittany ended up in a shelter when her owner was no longer able to care for her. NBRAN's Colorado coordinator learned of Kallee's plight and worked with the shelter for 2 weeks before they were able to release her to us. Within 30 minutes of coming into NBRAN's care, Kallee was rushed to the emergency vet as she had several red, soccer ball sized masses on her chest and abdomen that looked like they were going to burst!
Kallee underwent multiple tests, including a comprehensive blood panel, CBC and urinalysis. The vet also took abdominal and thoracic x-rays and, while she was under sedation, fine needle aspiration was performed on 3 of her largest lumps. Thankfully the masses are believed to be lipomas (benign fatty tumors), but due to their enormous size, they are severely and adversely affecting Kallee's quality of life.
Carrying the extra weight of these masses is uncomfortable and Kallee sometimes has difficulty walking without her legs sliding out from under her. Sitting can only be comfortably done if she sits sideways with her legs spread out. Yet, she is such a happy girl and hasn't lost her beautiful smile
Kallee underwent surgery on April 13th to have her tumors removed, and they were sent out for histopathology to confirm they are indeed just lipomas. To date, Kallee's medical bills exceed $1400 and the quote to remove these massive lipomas is $4-5K.
NBRAN is committed to helping Kallee have a better life. A life where she can walk, play and sit normally and comfortably. But we could use your help! Your generous donation will help Kallee and numerous other dogs in need. Once again we thank YOU for your continuous support Click here to Donate!
